Client - Lenovo, Island Conservation

From Robinson Crusoe Island to 3.6 billion people. We captured Lenovo's boldest campaign from one of the most remote places on earth.

Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile. 700 kilometres from the nearest coast. A community of 900 people. No reliable internet. No fallback. For over a month, we lived and worked on one of the most isolated islands on the planet, capturing the story behind Lenovo's Work for Humankind, a campaign that connected technology with conservation and reached 3.6 billion people worldwide. The content was amplified globally through Vox Media.

THE CHALLENGE

Robinson Crusoe Island sits over 700 km off the coast of Chile. Home to 900 people and a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, it is one of the most ecologically rich and isolated places on the planet. Internet speeds were 1 Mbps. Conservation data took months to process. Endangered species needed urgent protection. Lenovo wanted to build a technology hub on the island, bring connectivity for the first time, and prove that remote work could drive real change. STORO was commissioned to travel to the island and capture the story on the ground, during COVID, with no option to resupply.

APPROACH

STORO embedded with the creative team for over a month, producing photography, aerial imagery, and video content in extreme conditions. We brought everything we needed. We hiked through jungle and desert to reach locations. We shaped narratives in real time, coordinated with headquarters in London, and managed post-production across teams working around the clock in the US and Europe. We worked alongside international influencers and content creators, finding a collaborative rhythm that strengthened the broader campaign.

The content fed into Lenovo’s global PR campaign, managed by Zeno Group in partnership with Island Conservation. It was then amplified and distributed worldwide through Group Nine Media (Thrillist and Seeker), now part of Vox Media, reaching younger Millennial and Gen Z audiences at scale.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Robinson Crusoe Island is a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, home to species found nowhere else on earth. The communities protecting these places are often the least connected and the least heard. This project showed what becomes possible when technology, storytelling, and conservation come together in one place. It connected an isolated community to the world and gave their story a global audience.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

Every brief is different. Story runs through everything we do, from strategy and campaigns to skills and content. Whatever you are working on, we can help you say it in a way that lands.
