Storytelling strategy and customer films for an award-winning solar installer
Award-winning solar installer. Hundreds of happy customers. But a marketing approach that told people what was installed, never why anyone chose it. Growth depended on word of mouth, and word of mouth could not scale. We developed a storytelling strategy and created documentary-style films built around the real reasons people chose to go solar. We turned their most satisfied customers into their most powerful stories.
THE CHALLENGE
The Little Green Energy Company (now part of Hometree) had been installing solar panels and batteries across the South East since 2010. They had a strong reputation, an award-winning track record, and dozens of technical case studies on their website. Word of mouth was driving growth, but it could not scale.
The existing content was accurate but emotionally flat. It documented systems and specifications. It never captured the human side of the decision. The company needed to reach people who had never met a satisfied customer, and give them a reason to trust.
APPROACH
STORO worked with the marketing team to develop a story-led strategy. Rather than leading with product, we focused on the people behind every installation. We mapped the most compelling customer stories and identified a diverse group, each with a different motivation: grandchildren, financial return, coastal living, the satisfaction of tracking daily savings on an app.
We wrote the scripts collaboratively, keeping the focus on feelings and purpose while making the technical side accessible. The production was deliberately light. Small crews. Documentary style. Aerial cinematography to elevate production value and showcase the panels without relying on technical language. The initial brief was a set of case study videos. STORO's response went further: a storytelling strategy that shifted the focus from product to purpose, with content created for use across social media, LinkedIn, events, and paid advertising.
IMPACT
The storytelling strategy and content became central to the company's marketing approach. As part of a wider programme led by Soleil Marketing, the campaign contributed to:
Over £750,000 in marketing-qualified leads
250+ leads generated through integrated campaigns
650% increase in social media impressions
26% growth in social media followers
The work helped demystify renewable energy adoption and made the company's human qualities visible at scale. It also surfaced something the client had not fully recognised: the strength of their customer care, which became a central part of the brand narrative.
