How does storytelling transform the conversation?
This week, I returned to EMEX London, a dynamic gathering of senior energy managers focused on the latest technology, innovative products, and energy-saving equipment. Last year, I walked away uninspired. But this year, the event felt transformed, leaving me hopeful, inspired, and brimming with ideas.
Partnering again with my #storytelling collaborator, Riccardo Ginevri —whose engineering expertise perfectly complements our creative work—we delved into how impactful storytelling is shaping the clean energy conversation.
Last year, many exhibiting companies felt disconnected from their audiences. While I saw the potential for more creative communication and marketing strategies, there was little interest in exploring those possibilities.
This year, however, was a completely different experience. The event was more extensive and dynamic, with an increased presence of international companies and engaging exhibits. I was genuinely impressed by the high-quality films and branding, a marked improvement from the previous year.
What truly stood out was the growing recognition of storytelling as a vital tool. Riccardo Ginevri and I had meaningful conversations with companies eager to craft compelling narratives, train their teams in storytelling techniques, and integrate authenticity into their video productions. These discussions were not only insightful but profoundly energizing. I'm so glad I made the decision to return.
Of course, there's still progress to be made—especially compared to the neighbouring Event Sustainability Live event, which excelled in branding and visual impact. Yet, the openness and curiosity we encountered about Storo's work left me feeling optimistic. As the sun set over Excel London, casting a warm light on the venue’s sustainability signs, I left feeling inspired and a renewed sense of purpose.
